TRAINING CAMP AND SPORTS AWARDS

Tuesday, January 28, 2014

I'm just returning back from a weeks training in Lanzarote.  Having booked it last minute, it was well timed by the looks of the weather I'm retuning back to.  I had a cracking week out there with mainly riding with Pete Williams from the Haribo-Beacon Team and ex UK Youth team mate Ian Wilkinson.  I was glad of their company with it being windier than I can ever remember.  Those that know Lanzarote will appreciate how windy that actually is! Tough going, but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger right?

I was glad of the easier day which involved the standard cake and coffee stop…..well maybe two stops!  It was also a good opportunity to catch up with my brother who has recently moved out there, can't fault him!  He has got a blog going on of his travels, check it out here…  http://olliehorton.wordpress.com/2014/01/22/first-month-on-the-road/

You will all be happy to know, I have had my bouffant cut since this photo was taken!

This month had been the 2013 awards month and I have been lucky enough to be up for several and have managed to win two of those, which has been great.  The first was The Guernsey Press Sportsman of the year trophy and then mostly recently the Guernsey Sports Commission Trophy for best performer of the year.  Both have topped off a great year with UK Youth in 2013.  Check out the recently updated 2013 and 2024 photo galleries.

The Guernsey Press Achivement of the Year award. Guernsey Press Award

But, there is one more to go.  This one is the biggy of the three.  The Channel Island Sports Personality of the Year award, which is being held this Thursday (30thJan) in Jersey and I'm really looking forward to.  This is decided by a phone vote, which closes on the night.  You can vote upto 25 times from one phone line and my number is 0845 606 2403.  You can watch my story here and more info on the link here. http://www.channelonline.tv/channelonline_spoty/DisplayArticle.asp?ID=509241

It should be a cracking evening and its great to be up for the award with one of my longest and best mates from school, Chris Simpson a pro squash player, who is also from Guernsey.  There are also two people from Jersey up for the award.  But it is down to the public vote!

The next 10 days is to continue in a simularly busy fashion.  Having been based in Jersey for the past 10 months I am on to pastures new and happy my girlfriend is moving up north with me.  We are heading to Leeds and hoping to get settled in there before I start my busy season and Paula (my girlfriend) finds a job.

Thanks for reading, and a special thanks to those who have voted for me!  You can watch the CI-SPOTY awards live on Channel TV at 7:30pm and 10:30pm on Thurs 30th.
