It's been a few weeks since my last update. Until this week I've done no cycling since the mountain bike Inter Insular. That doesn't mean it's been a quiet few weeks though. I have just returned from holiday in Indonesia for 3 weeks and did a bit of travelling round whilst there. I was mainly in Bali but also went to a small Island called Nusa Lembongen for a few days and then Java for a week before heading back home to Guernsey.
Nusa Lembongen Island, one of many amazing sunsets seen!
Uluwatu surf break in Bali on the Bukit Peninsular
I had an amazing trip and it was a great break off the bike for me. I caught up with my brother and a few guys from Guernsey whilst there. Whilst there I did loads of surfing which is one of my favourite pastimes away from cycling and did lots of cool activities from snorkelling with manta rays to some very leisurely downhill cycling through the padi fields. It's very different to anywhere else I have been on holiday and you get into a great lifestyle whilst there. The last week I spent at a surf camp surfing a world famous wave called G-Land which is in a pretty remote part of Java, in the jungle basically. It was a great way to get back into a routine and was a very simple existence, for me very much like doing a stage race. Up early. Yoga at 6am, few hours surfing in the morning followed by lunch and a nap, maybe a massage before heading back out for an afternoon surf and an early night. I met some great people whilst away and finished my trip with one of the best surfs of my life…..Its been a shock coming home with the water temp over there being 27deg! And a nice warm 32deg or so air temp.
On the way out to the surf at G-Land, lazy man option in the boat!
This week has been a busy week for British domestic cycling teams with a lot announcing their rosters for the 2013 season. I am happy to announce I will be racing for Team UK Youth for next season. I am honoured and excited to have been selected to be part of what is going to be a big year for the team and hopefully myself as well. I already know a lot of the riders on the team, new and resigned and am looking forward to working with some familiar faces I have done in previous years. The press release can be seen here http://www.velouk.net/2012/11/09/team-news-2013-line-up-for-uk-youth-revealed/
For those who may not have heard of UK Youth here is a bit more info. UK Youth is National Charity with over 100 years of history, which directly works with in excess of 750,000 young people each year. The team is zero-cost to the charity, underwritten by the charities President Nigel Mansell CBE, and family.
