Were already well into 2013 now, winter training has finished and racing has begun. This is my first update of the year and as you can see the site has been update with new pics of Team UK Youth kit (thanks to Josh at blix.co), and I'm sure you'll agree looks pretty awesome.
I had a busy start to the year spending time in Lanzarote with family and two 10 day training camps in Mallorca with the team, managing to time them well to get away from some of the nasty weather we've had in the UK. The team training camps in February were awesome with some of the best training I have ever done. It was the first time that the team had got together for any length of time, even though it felt like we had been a team for a season already after only a few days everyone gelled so well! A big thanks to everyone who was their for such an enjoyable and productive 20 days of training.
On a climb in Mallorca, must have been trying cause my tounge is out!

After a short trip back to Jersey for a bit of recovery it was time to start racing. My first race was the Severn Bridge road race held near Bristol. After about an hour of racing there was a horrible accident involving 23 year old Junior Heffernan who collided with a car, unfortunately he lost his life. Such a tragic loss off life, no one should turn up to ride a race and not return home, so sad and thoughts are with his family and friends in this difficult time. A memorial ride was held in Devon today where nearly 300 people turned out to pay their respects.
After spending the week at home in Guernsey and still feeling really good on the bike, next up for me was the UCI 1.2, Omloop van het Waasland in Belgium. Unfortunately though, I got sick on the way over so had to sit the race out. I was really looking forward to getting stuck in on the roads where I learnt to race, so was gutted to miss out. I sat in the team car following the race which was a great experience that I haven't really had before. Hearing the boys names over the radio doing a great job on the road was something different for me, and they put in a valiant effort with 2 men down through sickness in a tough field! I had several days at hotels in Gatwick before finally getting home on Wednesday evening due to the snow we had in the Islands.....I can definatley not recomend Gatwick as a holiday destination!
My Day in the team car in Belgium.
I'm still trying to get back to 100% now and so had to miss another race this weekend, but I've heard the team rode an awesome race filling the top 7 places! Hopefully Ill be 100% healthy soon as I'm itching to get back on the bike.
I will keep you updated, don't forget to follow me on twitter for up to date goings on @tobynhorton
